This Year's Prices

I finally made it to the grain mill today! Cracked corn was $9.23 per fifty pound bag, down $0.04 or 0.04% from last year. Soybean meal was $12.47, up $0.20 or 1.6% from last year.

All in all, prices are pretty reasonable for 2012 so far.

This Year's Prices

Cracked corn cost me $9.27 for 50 pounds this year, or up 45% from last year. Soy was $12.47 for 50 pounds, or up 19%.

Last year's prices were fairly normal. Corn's price is rising due to ethanol production, plus the fact that corn didn't do well in some areas of the country last year. Additionally, grain exports are increasing across the board as many areas in the world had poor production.

Estimates for this year's usage in the lawn and gardens is down from last year, so the amount I spend should be approximately the same or slightly less.

Deinflation is Grand

I stopped out at Albright's Mill in Kempton today for soybean meal (and corn meal for some new shrubs). Last year's price was $13.25, this year's was $10.97. If I'm doing the math right, it went down 17%!

Inflation Stinks

My parents went to Albright's Mill in Kempton today for their soybean meal and picked up seven 50-lb bags for me at the same time. This year's price was $13.25, up from $9.80 last year.

For those of you keeping track at home, that's a 35% increase. In one year.
